As I was contemplating wether or not I should start my blog today or just push it again tomorrow… I looked up the definition of the word “goals” in the dictionary. And this is what I got… “Goals are the object of a person’s ambition or effort; an aim or desired result.” Often times… We get overly excited once we get our big hairy audacious goals. Then reality hit us and we get stuck. This has happened to me so many times that I had to make a conscious decision to break the pattern.

If we clearly look at the meaning of GOALS again, it states that it is the object of a person’s ambition or EFFORT. Since I’m on this “looking up in the dictionary” kick… I looked up the meaning of the word effort. And this is what I got… “Effort means a vigorous or determined attempt”. So in summary, in order to hit your goals you need to have a vigorous and determined attempt to back it up. Once I realized that, I started getting to work.

Here’s the summary of my 5 Steps!

1. Be aware of your current situation.

-You have to be honest and acknowledge to yourself that this is a common occurrence in your situation. When you are not aware of your current reality, that’s when goals slip up and important things don’t get done. We let the day run us… Instead of us running the day with all the important activities that can lead to our desired lifestyle.

2. Make the crucial decision to STOP. Ready or not!

-Make a verbal commitment to yourself to STOP procrastinating. This doesn’t have to be a long ordeal, where you need to finish other things before you have to commit to making the decision. This can really be a simple sentence that you say out loud in the heat of the moment… “(Insert your name here) READY OR NOT… STOP PROCRASTINATING!” (I dare you to say it really loud 3 times) This will help break the pattern and help you become more conscious about your actions. Imagine saying that 10 times a day… Our awareness percentage will just shoot to the roof!

3. Take out a sheet of paper and pen! Now!

-If this is your first time following an instructional step by step solution to stop procrastinating… The most important rule here is to FOLLOW IT!!! Lol! Let’s get into writing. Don’t just read along. Let this be the moment in time where you took a chance and follow through your commitment to achieving your goal. Write down all the important things that you need to get done this month. This list will not include chores or errands. This list is MAINLY goal oriented activities that will help you get closer to your desired goal. Once you have that done, you can dial it weekly and then daily. Make sure to do the goal oriented activities first so that you don’t get stuck looking busy.

4. Like Nike, “JUST DO IT”

-No more excuses. No more pushing it back to the endless tomorrows… and START WORKING! Ready or not, set aside the unimportant things and FOCUS on your goal oriented activities. Bring your list with you, put it somewhere where you will always see it so that you’ll always be constantly reminded of it.

5. Commit to ASSESSING your results!

-What good are your results if you don’t make a commitment to assess if you’re still on track to hitting your goals. Make a commitment to assess your results daily, weekly and monthly to pat yourself for a job well done or course correct if you have to.

My wish for you is that you continue to build your dreams and not give up hope in achieving them. We are always tested on our goals to see how bad do we really want it. Hopefully I’ve saved you from the “procrastination or feeling stuck dream killer” thats been haunting each and everyone of us at some point or another.

I’d love to hear from you… Tell me a time in your life when you were struggling to be productive? How did it make you feel? How did you get over it?
